WCPP named on prestigious Think Tanks to Watch list

We’re delighted to announce that we are featured in Think Tanks To Watch 2026 by On Think Tanks (OTT).

This year’s initiative recognises 55 think tanks from across the world for their noteworthy practices, innovative approaches and valuable contributions to the think tank community.

Think Tanks to Watch is a peer-recognition initiative that celebrates the diverse ways organisations generate evidence, engage with policy and contribute to change, and creates opportunities for others to learn from their experiences.

WCPP Director of Research Prof James Downe said, “For WCPP, this recognition is an opportunity to share more about our work on our demand-led model with Welsh Government, our approach to co-producing projects with public services, and highlighting innovative practices to how we capture and understand our impact.

“We bridge research and decision making by ensuring evidence and expertise are accessible and usable for policy makers, practitioners and public service leaders in Wales. We’re proud to be part of this global community and look forward to learning from the organisations featured alongside us.”

Some recent examples of WCPP work illustrates both demand-led policy support and systematic reflection on knowledge brokering itself.

In Swansea, we worked co-productively with community researchers and lived experience experts to find local solutions to reducing poverty stigma in the design and delivery of public services. Our findings from Voices of Swansea: Challenging Poverty Stigma Together will inform Swansea Council's Tackling Poverty strategy.

For the Welsh Government, our report A Welsh way for probation was commissioned to explore practical options for the devolution of probation, an example of the Centre responding directly to a live policy question with structured evidence synthesis.

A small research team within WCPP adds a further layer by studying the organisation’s own knowledge-brokering practices and their effects on policy and practice, now supported by a new Embedded Impact Researcher.

Together, these examples show a Centre treating evidence use as both a service to government and a subject for continuous learning and improvement.
