Dr Kaisa Pankakoski

Kaisa Pankakoski joined the Wales Centre for Public Policy (WCPP) as a Research Associate in 2026.

Before joining WCPP, she completed a PhD at Cardiff University’s School of Welsh/Ysgol y Gymraeg and an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the School of English, Communication and Philosophy. Kaisa is a sociolinguist specialising in family language policy, investigating intergenerational language transmission, language ideologies, and children’s perspectives. Her book, Multilingual Family Language Policy and Wellbeing, was published in July 2026. She has also published in a range of non-academic contexts and peer-reviewed journals, including Early Child Development and Care.

She has previously worked as a freelance translator and investigative journalist in Chile, France, Spain, Finland, England, and Wales. Kaisa has a background in the social sciences, humanities, and media, with a BA (Hons) in European Studies from the University of Portsmouth and an MA in International Journalism from Cardiff University.

Kaisa currently works on research programme projects, supporting WCPP's work on the impact of knowledge brokering organisations and contributing to the development of its impact report.
