The Welsh Government are preparing their approach to fisheries for if/when the UK leaves the European Union. They are particularly interested in future opportunities, including both quota and non-quota limits, to achieve their ‘fair share’ of allocation and to manage fish stocks for the benefit of coastal communities in Wales. This also sits in with the broader objective of managing fish stocks line with the principles of the Well-being of Future Generations Act.
The output from this assignment will be an evidence review by Griffin Carpenter of the New Economics Foundation. It will build on his previous work for the Centre on the implications of Brexit for fisheries opportunities in Wales, which you can read here.
