WCPP awarded new UKRI Policy Fellowship

Deadline 15 July 2025
Location Hybrid

Understanding the impact of What Works Centres like the Wales Centre of Public Policy and other knowledge brokering organisations (KBOs) on policy making and implementation practices, is an increasingly important element of our work at WCPP.

To help deepen our knowledge of how best to mobilise evidence for policy makers, we are thrilled to have secured ESRC UKRI funding for an 18-month What Works Innovation Fellowship to develop and capture What Works Centres’ impact on policy and practice.

There is little existing research on how to achieve and capture the impact of knowledge brokers as existing studies largely focus on how research informs policy and practice and ignores the potential impact of brokers who sit between research and policy or practice. The fellowship will develop and pilot, using participatory action research methods, innovative tools aimed at improving the impact of WWCs.

The UKRI Policy fellowships are an exciting opportunity for researchers at any stage of their career to undertake cutting edge research and inform decision-making on the most pressing policy problems of our time and to help increase the supply of and demand for evidence to address policy priorities.

The fellowship will provide an excellent career development opportunity and enhance understanding of applying research in a policy environment. WCPP’s Fellow will be part of a cohort of academic researchers and receive training, mentoring and networking opportunities with likeminded individuals.

This opportunity is open to researchers based at an organisation eligible for UKRI funding, researchers will be in the economic and social sciences, or be able to demonstrate the generation of interdisciplinary insights with other recognised academic disciplines.
